How Lorcana Booster Packs Work

A conservative guide to Lorcana booster-pack slots, foils, special cards, and how this simulator turns imported card data into pack openings.

A Lorcana booster pack is a sealed product intended to give a mix of lower-rarity cards, rare-or-higher cards, and at least one visually different or foil-style outcome depending on the product. In this simulator, a pack is a 12-card result built from imported cards for the selected set. The opening is meant to feel like a pack reveal while staying clear that real-world products can vary.

What the pack slots mean

The lower-rarity slots give the pack its everyday card mix. Common cards fill the first group of simulated slots, and Uncommon cards fill the next group. Those slots help users see the set's ordinary card pool before the pack reaches the rare-or-higher cards near the end of the reveal.

The rare-plus slots are selected from cards whose imported rarity is Rare, Super Rare, Legendary, or another supported set-specific rarity. The exact real-world distribution of those outcomes is not claimed as official here. The simulator uses a transparent weighted model so users can compare possible outcomes without treating the result as a prediction.

Foils and special printings

Foil is not the same idea as normal rarity. A card can be a Common card and also have a foil printing. A card can also be Rare, Super Rare, Legendary, Enchanted, Iconic, or another special treatment depending on how it appears in the imported set data.

In this simulator, the final slot is described as the foil or special slot. Most outcomes are regular foil-style cards from the set's available card data. Scarcer outcomes, such as Enchanted or Iconic cards, are modelled there only when the selected set has those printings in the imported database.

How the website simulates an opening

When you open a pack, the frontend sends the chosen set slug to the backend pack-opening API. The frontend does not invent the cards locally. It receives a pack result, sorts the returned cards by display order, reveals them, and can save those cards to the local browser collection if you choose to reveal the result.

That separation matters. Set lists, card images, rarities, pack-pullable flags, and simulation results come from the site's current imported data and API contract. If the database is missing a card or a card is marked incorrectly, the simulated pack can only be as accurate as that data.

What you can learn from simulated packs

A simulated pack is useful for exploring a set, learning the difference between rarity levels, and seeing how swingy chase-card results can feel. It can also help a collector decide whether they enjoy a set's card pool before buying physical packs.

It should not be used to estimate the value of sealed product, make purchase guarantees, or claim that a real pack will follow the same result. Physical products can differ because of print runs, collation, packaging, product type, region, or future set rules.
